Werewolf

Werewolf - a man who could turn into a wolf. Wandering away from the roads, it attacked people and animals in a blind, uncontrollable rage. Werewolves were either cursed men or sorcerers that put themselves under a spell willingly. The beast was abnormally strong and agile and was not hindered by the darkest of nights. To gain protection from the werewolf's attack, one should pray to saint Nick (also known as Santa Claus nowadays), who was „the patron of wolves” in Poland.

Wilkołak –  to człowiek, który potrafił przekształcić się w wilka. Błąkał się po bezdrożach i w amoku atakował ludzi i zwierzęta, nie potrafiąc zapanować nad rosnącą agresją. Wilkołakiem mógł stać się człowiek, na którego rzucono klątwe, bądź też czarownik za sprawą nałożonego na siebie zaklęcia. Bestia ta posiadała nadludzkie zdolności, siłę i zwinność, a także widziała w kompletnych ciemnościach. Aby ochronić się przed jej atakiem, należało zwrócić się w modlitwie do świętego Mikołaja, który w Polsce był patronem „od wilków”.
